Travel insurance

Now that we have all the details in place and the deposit has been paid I need to set up the travel insurance.

Quotes for the 3 of us are ranging for £33 to over £100. I know that cheapest is not necessarily best, so what do you look for in insurance cover, apart from eleventy billion pounds for medical expenses?

Oh in case you're wondering, Steven's nannies have to sort out their own cover as they are ladies over a certain age.

Mine is always mega expensive because of existing medical conditions but I always make sure we have:

Medical expenses for around £10m
Cancellation including for ill health
Travel disruption which includes missed flights, delayed flights, natural disasters etc
Personal liability - I always try to keep this to about £2m
Personal accident
Legal expenses
Baggage, delay, lost, stolen
Theft
Bankruptcy of travel company

Then there is all the usual standard cover.

Looking at some of the cheaper policies and the cancellation cover does not cover the cost of half the holiday.

You will probably find the cheaper companies don't have such good cover.

Have you tried the Post Office, they compare insurance companies and they are quite competitive.

I know it sounds silly but the other thing to do is look for an annul policy as these are sometimes cheaper with better cover. I always get an annual policy

Yeah we had Post Office last time.

Might go with them again. Some places have comparable cover for a bit less but I've never heard of them.

Some of the ones you haven't heard of are underwritten by the bigger companies, who are they

I did a TopCashBack comparison and got loads.

Post Office wins though. All covered. I'm not allowed to put myself in life threatening situations except to go to the aid of another human being in a life threatening situation.

Does that mean Summit Plummit is out?

Hmmmm... or bungee jumping, or hang gliding, or 'gator hunting? Sounds like you'd have to be overly cautious.
