Re: ipads and laptops at airport security?
We only took our iPads and they were in just their protective covers. They had to be out and we had to even turn them on for the security people so they could see that they were indeed what they appeared to be.

Re: ipads and laptops at airport security?
It really can vary not just from airport to airport but jobsworth airport person to person. I swear I've encountered some agents who will moan no matter what you do. Then there are others counting the minutes to the end of their shift who you think would probably pass anything without further enquiry

In general though, I leave cameras and ipads in my carry on but remove laptops.

Re: ipads and laptops at airport security?
We normally put our laptops in a container on their own for scanning. Only once have we been asked to turn it on and if you ever that was an internal flight from Gatwick to Plymouth

If ever there is a tomorrow when we're not together.......
there is something you must always remember.
You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.
But the most important thing is, even if we're apart...... I'll always be with you.
Winne the Pooh - A A Milne

A friend is a hand that is always holding yours,
no matter how close or far apart you may be.
A friend is someone who is always there and will always, always care.
A friend is a feeling of forever in the heart.

Re: ipads and laptops at airport security?
I've never once been asked to turn my laptop on, but at JFK I did have to take it out of its bag to go through the x-ray machine on a tray.
