AMC Downtown Disney 24 at WDW Offers Monthly ‘Sensory Friendly’ Shows Geared Toward Autistic Guests
The AMC Theatre at Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World will offer “sensory friendly” film-going experiences for guests with autism.
During a sensory friendly showing, theater lights are turned up, sound is reduced and audience members are welcome to talk or get up and move during the show.
The program was initiated at the AMC Columbia Mall 14 theater in Columbia, Maryland, where a request from a parent of an autistic child inspired a screening attended by more than 300 parents and children.
Upcoming shows at AMC Downtown Disney 24 at Walt Disney World Resort are:
- “Finding Nemo” – September 22
- “Frankenweenie” – October 13
- “Wreck-It Ralph” – November 10
- “Rise of the Guardians” – December 8
All sensory-friendly shows take place at 10am and dates and films are subject to change.
If ever there is a tomorrow when we're not together.......
there is something you must always remember.
You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.
But the most important thing is, even if we're apart...... I'll always be with you.
Winne the Pooh - A A Milne

A friend is a hand that is always holding yours,
no matter how close or far apart you may be.
A friend is someone who is always there and will always, always care.
A friend is a feeling of forever in the heart.

Wow. That is really great to hear! It's wonderful to realize that "big business" can offer something to meet the needs of a smaller segment of the population.
I hope there is a strong response so they are encouraged to keep offering the special features.

Having never "worked" with autistic children, only been around them I am truly intrigued by how this may work. I think it is great they are giving it a go.
