TSA to Allow Small Knives in Carry on Luggage on Flights

The TSA has announced that it will be allowing some small pocket knives aboard US flights from the 25th APril 2013.

The TSA said on its website, "The decision to permit certain items in carry-on bags was made as part of TSA's overall risk-based security approach and aligns TSA with International Civil Aviation Organization Standards and our European counterparts."

The small knives will be permitted in all carry on luggage and must meet all of the following requirements:

The blade must be no more than 2.36 inches or 6 cm in length – from tip to where it meets the handle or hilt

The blade must be no more than ½ inch in width.

The TSA said fixed blades, razors and box cutters will still be forbidden.

No sorry Brit, it's not an April Fools joke, the Flight Attendants Union Coalition are not happy and have said

The Flight Attendants Union Coalition, representing 90,000 flight attendants nationwide, called the decision outrageous and shortsighted, and asked Pistole to reconsider.

"We believe that these proposed changes will further endanger the lives of all flight attendants and the passengers we work so hard to keep safe and secure," the group said.

What possible reason could you have for carrying a knife on a plane? It's like 9/11 never happened.

That is ridiculous!!!! Why would someone need to take a knife in their carry on anyway?!? Its obviously not been that much of an inconvenience since the rules changed.
I find it bizarre you can take a 6cm blade on board but not a razor? Surely the blade can do the same if not worse damage.
Just seems a little stupid if you ask me.

Ok I can carry a knife on a plane but not a full sized bottle of shampoo???? This makes absolutely no sense.
