PETA eyeing Sea World purchase Aug 21, 2008
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is claiming that an anonymous donation to the group will enable them to purchase a Sea World theme park. It is anticipated that the Anheuser Busch owned theme park will go on sale once InBev's takeover of Busch is complete.
According to reports, PETA would release the animals and replace them with animatronics and virtual displays.

Re: seaworld animals could be released!
PETA is pretty powerful, but I don't see this coming to fruition. I could see them releasing the animals, and that isn't always the best for them! Animals who have been kept in captivity, particularly those bred and kept, cannot simply be released to the wild. It takes specialized training for them, and reacclimation before they can just be sent "back."

That`s just what I was going to say Tink. They would do more harm than good to many of the animals if they did this stupid thing.
I`m all for the protection of animals but from what I`ve seen both from visiting Sea World and also from other tv programmes, the creatures have a much better existance than if they were in the wild and their keepers are so dedicated and caring.

Re: seaworld animals could be released!
I used to be totally biased against Sea World. I felt that any place that kept animals for performing entertainment were little better than those old style zoos that caged animals in small concrete barred boxes.
I couldn't have been more wrong about Sea World. They rescue so many animals, and do return them to the wild. The habitats they have (like the penguins) are study and research areas too (much like the habitats at AK) and much good is learned at these.
I have learned in my life that I need to investigate matter myself instead of taking an "agency" or "groups" position as one hundred percent valid or accurate.
I used to be a full supporter of PETA, but have moved away from them completely after some of the truly reprehensible things they've done.
Releasing captive animals to the wild, without the proper retraining is something that I can see them doing, unfortunately. They often do more harm then good, and that is not something that is easily seen. They have a pretty strong PR system.

Re: seaworld animals could be released!
Absolutely right, Shellyamc.
They are doing what it takes to get themselves on the news, and NOT for the intent of doing any good for abused animals.

Re: seaworld animals could be released!
I agree with what everyone has been saying about releasing the animals. They wouldnt survive in the wild because they are use to where they are. It would be disastrous to consider this without thinking it through properly.
They are just after publicity and not even considering the poor defenceless animals who cant speak for themselves.
