Taxi firms - which would you suggest/sponsor this board?
Always used quicksilver before with no probs - any suggestions. Not very keen on driving as I genuinely think it will sit in a parking lot for most of the trip but may consider it

Re: Taxi firms - which would you suggest/sponsor this board?
Hi!
I never drive out there.... we dont have any taxi firms sponsoring yet though a couple have kindly asked.
Quicksilver gets good reviews. As some folks know, quicksilver and I had a bit of a falling out because they added an enforced gratuity (in tiny print on their website) payable for international travellers only so I remember.
Since then, reports are that others have adopted this policy too and of course Disney is now adding tips automatically to meals and so on.
I've used http://www.tiffanytowncars.com/ for many years with not a single problem. There's a coupon for $5 off on their website. The cars tend to be a little older than quicksilver but nothing to worry about.
To be honest, if you've used QS, like them etc. theres no reason not to stick with who you know in my humble opinion

Disney is adding tips

Yes I had a bit of an issue once with quicksilver adding a tip and then the driver obviously hanging around waiting for another - made the trip expensive and a little awkward - never sure of the etiquet - wether or not to tip both journeys or not

To certain plans, when certain discount cards (dde) are used and so on... thin end of the wedge IMHO but I'm kinda losing on the whole "gratuity should be optional and dependant on service" thing

That's right. My conversations with Greg of QS confirmed that a 20% tip was the minimum and that in fact the drivers could expect even more for the level of service they provided. Had the tip been entirely optional then I would have agreed with tipping >20% if the service required it but the whole "ok I've paid my tip but this guy is still waiting there looking at me" thing just really annoyed me.Yes I had a bit of an issue once with quicksilver adding a tip and then the driver obviously hanging around waiting for another - made the trip expensive and a little awkward - never sure of the etiquet - wether or not to tip both journeys or not
Water under the bridge but I haven't used them since

We tend to get Disney Magical Express to/from the hotel now so no spend there
We go to the malls a few times probably which is $35-40 each way
KSC etc we tend to use www.gatortours.com which is reasonably priced
We always stay on site so I guess from time to time I wish we had a car to travel to one of the offsite restaurants, but then I like a drink so that wouldnt work out anyway

For those who don't mind driving here, you could plan your holiday to have your offsite excursions and meals all in one sequence and rent a car just for that time.

Maybe I should just give it up and start Tink's Taxi service, free to members of this board, of course!

Oh, meant to say I've always heard good things about Tiffany Towncars.
I've never used any service here, so can't give a personal recommendation. I've had a couple of different reports that Quicksilver's quotes for service change once you've connected (increased) or once you've booked.
Happy Limo is another that gets good recommendations.
