      Old Key West?

I've just been looking at pics of OKW and I think I'm in love.

Who has stayed here? Would you recommend it for a relaxing anniversary trip?

      Re: Old Key West?

Me! Me! Me! You knew I'd be coming along, eh?

OKW is a beautiful resort that shares its beautifully landscaped grounds with a golf course. You always have a lovely view.

When you pull in, you will cross a little bridge and then take a left to the Hospitality House where you will check in. The CMs there are some of the kindest at WDW.

The check in area is large, with a conceirge to the right and an area for watching movies, relaxing to the left. The CMs here can take care of any request you may have.

There is a covered walkway in this immediate area, so you can go from the HH to the little shop and Olivia's all under cover. The little shop has a fairly decent assortment of snacks and light food items, beer, wine, maybe champagne, etc. The usual tee shirts, and other items. There are public bathrooms here too.

Olivia's is a step away. It's a serviceable restaurant, but you'll definitely want to have the majority of your meals elsewhere. The menu is pretty basic and limited, but again the food isn't bad at all. Last time we ate there I had the penne pasta dish and it was quite nice.

The Gurgling Suitcase is in this immediate area. It's the bar that serves the restaurant, the pool and passers by. It isn't AC'd so not so relaxing for a before or after dinner drink, but they do serve to Olivia's so not all is lost.

The outside area has picnic tables, and the snack bar. It's your typical snack bar!

There is Hank's Rent and Return and the Community Hall. Hank's is where you get your towels for the pool, rent water craft, bikes, surreys, and get ping pong paddles and the like. Indoors at the CH you can borrow a book (honor system) and rent DVDs. There are activities here too. The main pool is in this immediate area and the slide is Max's favorite! (You remember Max, eh? We took him to WDW when he was a wee boy of six)?

It's a nice area with many chaise lounges, covered tables, and a sauna. There is a HOT TUB too!

OKW goes from there to several sections and many buildings. We favor those near the furthest back part of OKW for the quiet, the proximity to the walkway along the canal to DTD and the very nice quiet pool that is there.

There is a very nice secondary pool with snack bar too.

The one drawback for many at OKW is that the buildings can rise to three stories, and only one or two (Miller's Road villas) have elevators. Not having an elevator never bothered us much, but we did get some good exercise the time we requested a third floor villa!!

We've stayed in the studios there, the one bedrooms and the two bedrooms. We dream about the day that we can get a Grand Villa and have a real holiday!

Parking as we've already said is very convenient to your villa. There are internal buses and buses to every park and DTD. You can also take Trumbo Ferry (back at the HH) to DTD.

You'll see birds of all sorts and what seems to be hundreds of bunny rabbits!

If you like to walk, relax, have some time for peace and quiet this is definitely the resort for you.

That's exactly what we like to do whilst at the resort. ::

We won't have a car, what is the transportation like from there?

You'll be fine! We never move the car once we've checked in. You'll have a golf cart (one of the large ones) transport with bell services to your villa. After than you take the internal buses (each bus stops at the HH on it's way out, so you can hop any bus to get there) to move around the resort if you wish (we walk, we like to walk).

Bus service to every where else is just fine! It's convenient and timely.

Oh, meant to add that the decor is light, and easy on the eye. The interiors are light walls, with melon, peach, blue and touches of other colors. The artwork is shells and maps. Really nice.

The accomodations, regardless of what size you choose, are the largest of all the DVCs.

      Thank you.

Are they just as welcoming to non-DVC guests?
