Re: boma and jiko at the Animal Kingdom Lodge
Yes, you will need to book. They are very popular restaurants.
The food is spiced authentically, which means you'll have savory and flavorful tastes of warm spices like cumin, nutmeg, cinnamon, coriander, curry, etc. It is not a "hot" spicy though, so don't worry about that.
Boma is the buffet, of course and has a wide selection of choices. There are roasted meat (Lamb, beef, pork) a chicken dish, bobotie (a wonderful combination of minced lamb, beef, and egg) vegetable combinations, soups and stews (the Moroccan fish stew is my absolute favorite) assorted salads and cold choices, too. There are selections for children and others who do not want the African choices. Mac and cheese of course, and chicken fingers, along with some plainer vegetables.
There is a selection of hummus and taboleh, and the like. And, of course the lovely desserts.
Jiko is full service and has some really wonderful dishes. Our favorites are the lamb shank (we love it so much we asked for the recipe and make it at home now) and the beef tenderloin.
The Tastes of Africa appetizers is a great way to get a feel for the many flavors of this comprehensive and amazing cuisine.
Jiko and Boma both have very nice wine lists with the most extensive selection of South African wines available nearly anywhere on the east coast of the US.
It's a lovely experience, and one I'm sure you'll want to repeat!Thank you for being a member of our Secrets Family!!! We are so very pleased to have you with us!

Oh, we also loved the bobotie so much we requested and received the recipe for that one too. We make that at home and use it for lunch or breakfast.

We ate at Boma last time we went to Disney. My DD was 16 and took her friend who was also 16, my DN's were 8 and 5 respectively and they all found something in the buffet that they were really pleased with. I thought it was pretty good, but DW, SIL and my Bro loved it.

dont forget to arrive early and take a good look around, speak to the cast members and wander outside. It's a wonderful resort and you'll get much more out of it than just a nice meal

OH yes! Great point to make! You'll definitely want to treat your visit as a bit of a tour. There are the public viewing places (different levels from inside the resort) and the outdoor areas. Do be sure to speak with the CMs who are in those areas as many of them are from different countries in Africa.
The lobby alone is like a museum of sorts. You'll want to take your time and view each artifact and read about it.
As one CM once said to us, "The Savannah comes alive after 7:00 pm."
I believe they feed the animals around 5-6 pm too, so that would be a nice time to aim for.

While we were waiting around to get our ADR there were cast members doing some dancing and singing with the guests telling African mythical stories, lots of fun and a bit noisey.:
