DH's new Dell laptop is being delivered on Tuesday so I'll let you know
It's only taken him 2 months to make a decision
It's an expensive one though, he's gone for one of their business laptops.

Ah. That's a tragic illness that selective deafness. :sigh; Tends to hit where electronics and jewelry are the topics of discussion. At least he doesn't have the worst case; deafness where WDW is concerned!

Back to the discussion at hand!
We looked at some really inexpensive PC laptops in Staples the other day. As our Keith has taught me, if you know what to look for you can get a nice machine for a reasonable cost.

Re: nice new laptop anyone?
The tiny notebooks are cute and fairly functional if you're going to travel a lot--the light weight is terrific. But the keyboards are scrunched and the screens are the size of a small DVD player.
Depends on your needs.
Decide what you need in terms of RAM (memory), storage, graphics, speed, etc. and go from there.
I'm using a three-year-old Dell laptop that was state of the art when purchased. It's a bit slow by today's standards, but totally functional. I haven't had any issues with it, but I do maintenance on it periodically. Remove cookies, embedded stuff that I don't want, defrag the HD, etc. It doesn't take long and makes a significant difference in performance.

I already have a laptop, but I would love one of those minis for just note taking and the internet when I'm at school. But they have a weird program on them and don't know if that program would convert into Word.

Re: nice new laptop anyone?
Well in theory, both since microsoft touted their new xml as a standard (although ultimately lost out to the openoffice proposed standards).
There are certainly converters and of course you can write a file from office 2007 in the older format as well!
So one way or another, it'd either work straight off or with a simple conversion
