Jonathan Ross & Russel Brand suspended

Does anyone else think this is just silly? it's humour and theyre paid to push the boundaries arent they?

BBC Director General Mark Thompson, said: "This is not a marginal case. It's clear from the views expressed by the public that this broadcast has caused severe offence and I share that view.

"This gross lapse of taste by the performers and the production team has angered licence payers."

I would like to add my own personal and unreserved apology to Andrew Sachs, his family and to licence fee payers for the completely unacceptable broadcast on BBC Radio 2.

I think it's gone a bit over the top personally, they are both controversial and people know this.

I know it wasn't a nice thing to do, but it was pre-recorded so don't tell me that the program controller didn't know about it :sigh;

I'm also pretty sure the grand daughter is going to get some good modelling jobs out of it, after all it's put her straight in the spotlight

I agree. Apparently there were only 2 complaints from actual show listeners, the rest have come in following the publicity.
This Country has much more important issues to be making a fuss about.....

It's so silly, I read that as well MP :sigh;

I totally agree with you, the important things get brushed under the carpet over things that have been sensationalized

Ross and Brand have got rich pushing the lines and they've been paid to do just that! If they go over what's acceptable, then someone at the bbc should have stood up and pulled the segment!

For it to be mentioned by the prime minister and various politicians is crazy. I'd have hoped they'd have more important things to worry about

I make no secret of the fact that I am a big fan of both Ross and Brand. What has annoyed me here is this is almost trial by press. Ok, they did overstep the mark but they have, as far as I'm aware, apologised to Mr Sachs. In the case of Jonathan Ross, I believe he has apologised in person.
The person who should stand up is the person who allowed the segment to be broadcast.

My DD even sent a strongly worded letter to the BBC!

Edited to say - I'm probably a bit peeved because my weekend isn't going to be the same as it usually is! Jonathan every Friday night, Jonathan on the radio Saturday morning and Russell on Saturday night. Add the fact that Buzzcocks will now not be on tomorrow night (Russell was team captain).

Seems a bit daft doesnt it? :/ Im sure they'll still get paid the same so it feels like all that's happened so far is the viewers/listeners have lost out

................ and the BBC are probably trying to make out they are acting responsibly to justify the licence fee

How would you like it if someone phoned you and described how they had been intimate with your grandchild. Yep they may push the boundaries but they are paid enough to know what is too far...

I totally agree Dawn but from what i have gathered Mr Sachs was phoned and asked about the messages and asked that none of them be used in the broadcast at all.

So who was ultimately responsible for letting it go to air?
