Apparently both heathrow and manchester now have these. At Manchester im reading that there are no longer economy check in desks, everyone must either check in online or via one of these new screens at the airport. You then go to the bag drop areas.

A friend who went out late last week said manchester was full of people walking back and forth looking for the checkin desks and getting in the bag drop queue without having used the screens, they all got told to go away and use the screens before joining the queue

definitely the best way IMHO since there's bound to be queues for those screens at the airport
