Laptops/netbooks
I was wondering if those net books are worth getting- i tend to surf the net and edit photos on my laptop at the moment. The photos are stored on the desktop and i access it through the network.
The size really appeals to me but i wouldn't want to get one if i can't do what i want to on it.
thanks

Re: Laptops/netbooks
In my humble opinion, great for occasional web surfing, bit of email but useless for anything like photo editing

Re: Laptops/netbooks
I wanted to get DD one for Xmas but DH refused saying better to buy a laptop as not much difference in price and can do more on a laptop. DSIL got one and loves it but all she uses it for is web browsing.

Re: Laptops/netbooks
The netbooks I've seen require software to be on a flash drive/memory stick--assuming the OS is compatible with anything.

Have to agree with Keith on this one--so far!

Re: Laptops/netbooks
I have a netbook from ASUS it's the 900HA and it's fantastic. Here's what I use it for though: note taking and web surfing. It has windows on it and has Works. I just save my notes as a 2007 Word program and transfer it to my home computer. It's super small and has a 5 hour battery.

Re: Laptops/netbooks
Netbooks are basically for internet use.
If you're playing with photos you need something more sophisticated. We've just bought a new Dell laptop - 4gb of ram and 250gb hard drive, built in wi-fi thingy, SD card socket so no need for a card reader, and a couple of other toys I haven't played with yet. Was £400 in PC World sale.
Apparently 2gb of ram is the minimum you should consider these days.
