Scanner recommendations please
I think that my scanner is going belly up after all these years, so I'm looking to replace it. Here are some of the things I use my scanner for:
- scanning old documents (I do genealogy)
- scanning old family photos
- scanning cards and other crafts I create or receive from others
- scanning photos grandkids mailed to me by family
Those are my main uses for a scanner.
I don't want to spend an arm and/or leg.
Any suggestions for a versatile yet affordable scanner?

Re: Scanner recommendations please
I have an older Lexmark all-in-one (scanner, copier, fax & printer) that does a nice job. It's a flatbed, which I prefer for most things. It was pretty inexpensive when I bought it, although the ink cartridges are a bit pricey. I think the unit is around $100 on sale these days, sometimes a bit less. It's obvious where Lexmark makes a profit!

Main disadvantages:
Scanning bed is limited to 8.5" x 11"
When one thing goes, the entire thing is gone.

Re: Scanner recommendations please
I have two HP all in one machines (one is for work, the other we own personally). Both work exceptionally well. I use the scanner for work (a less expensive model) more than we use our personal HP scanner.
So, all that to say the HP all in ones are very affordable and depending upon the model you buy can do nearly anything you might want done!Thank you for being a member of our Secrets Family!!! We are so very pleased to have you with us!

Re: Scanner recommendations please
I said the same but I've ended up with one anyway. IT's an hp as well
The trouble seems to be that they make loads of all in ones and not very many stand alone scanners any more and the ones they do make are as expensive if not more so than the all in ones so I ended up with an all in one and I mainly just use the scanner. It's very good though

Re: Scanner recommendations please
I had the same issue, Donna. I didn't want an all-in-one, either. But it was difficult to find a stand-alone scanner, and the ones I found were quite expensive in comparison. I already had three printers and a copier, and my desktop at the time had fax capabilities (software, not outside source). So I didn't need what I bought. It just was the most economical option available.
