A night of galaxies part 2 - seriously mindblowing stuff
In a small area of Virgo there is an area galled the realm of galaxies that have ancient eliptical galaxies, took 1 frame as I was packing up last night in that general area then ran the image through a very natty online astrometric programme

the astrometric programme has found 14 Galaxies in this one frame but if you look there are dozens more
the scale of what you are looking at is truely mind blowing. these are all millions of light years away and each is the size of our own galaxy which in itself would take you 100,000 years to cross if you were travelling at the speed of light

How can a human being fathom that? How can something so immense exist and how can we relate to its enormity? I'm overwhelmed at the attempt to even comprehend...

Doesn't it though, Sister Tinkerbell? I once read that a human is as significant as a grain of sand. This kind of supports that philosophy, eh? Talk about a visual for carpe diem!

Re: A night of galaxies part 2 - seriously mindblowing stuff
When I see these pictures, all I can do is quote Douglas Adams:
Tom (Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly hugely mindbogglingly big it is. I mean you may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist, but that’s just peanuts to space.
... who's feeling a bit puny right now!)
