      Bit of a trippette

Half term this week and Adrian had Monday and Tuesday off work so we went to stay with Nanny Lesley and Grandad Fred.

On Monday Mummy and Daddy took Steven to the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. Nanny Lesley tagged along too. Train from Staines to Waterloo and then Waterloo East to Greenwich, then a short walk to Greenwich park.

Incidentally the ticket office people will get you the cheapest deal. A one day Travelcard from Staines is £13.90 for an adult but the man said if Steven would be an adult for the day the 4 of us would count as a group and we'd go for £6.95 each. Steven said he didn't want to be a grown up all day but agreed to be one just for the station ticket machines

Anyway the Observatory is in the middle of Greenwich park - up a hill. Yes it is as steep as it looks.

Entry is free and the first thing you have to do is stand on the Prime Meridian with one foot in each of the east and west hemispheres.

Incidentally the gps reading I took read 000.00.091. Anyone know why it doesn't read 000.00.000 ? I know. Do you? Do you even care?

Some views of London from the Observatory.

Greenwich power station and the old Dome/O2 arena thing.

National Maritime Museum with Docklands behind it.

      Gherkin thingy.

Dome of St Pauls. Look very carefully and you can see Tower Bridge too.

Looked round all the time/clock bits before moving over to the astronomy area. You can't take photos inside but this is the Planetarium where we paid £6 each to watch an awesome film about stars.

Then it was lunchtime. We bought a picnic and the weather was nice enough for us to sit outside. I spotted a couple of onlookers in a nearby tree.

      Re: Bit of a trippette

Copious amounts of money was spent by all in the excellent gift shop before Steven got his wish for a turn on the talking telescope.

We spent a good few hours at the Observatory and it is well worth it if you're interested in that kind of stuff. It is up a hill but there is a lift available if needed. And it's set in a lovely park that was full of people and their children/dogs enjoying the fine half-term weather.

We found a sossidge wagon!!! In the park. A wagon selling posh sossidge. Only Adrian and Steven were hungry though.

Had a bit of a stroll through the park after that. This is the view back up to the Observatory.

As we were in no rush to get home we headed here.

Where Steven insisted on sitting on both.

The museum is free entry again - like all London museums.

And it was absolutely heaving full with groups of Mexican teenagers. All ignoring the "no photography" signs. I was wondering whether Mexico City was full of British teenagers doing the same. They weren't even looking at anything - just walking round photographing everything. I could have sat an watched them for hours.

Anyway there's a little area in there full of buttons to press and stuff and you could take photos in there.

Then it was time to head back to the station and fight through the rush hour commuters to get home and tell Grandad all about it.

Tuesday morning we took the dogs out. Went to Virginia Water where there's a lovely parkland/woodland/lake area. It's part of Windsor Great Park which is a royal park so it's referred to as Posh Park.

Pictures of mad dogs and boy.
