Cornwall May 2009 - part 2
Sunday
Willow was not happy last night and woke up about a bazillion times. Consequently I was woken up about a bazillion times too. Steven woke up at 6am - some holiday this is.
We sat on the sofa together watching the Fluffy Club
Adrian surfaced some time later and we did the breakfast thing. Steven had cocoa shreddies from his mini boxes.
Now - we had no fixed plans for this week. But - I like my geocaching.
So last week I'd sat and printed a load of cache details for the area and bought them with me. While waiting for Adrian to surface I'd studied these and found a circular walk around 6 caches with a car park near them. And the dog needed a walk too. Sold!

Into the car, out the park, turn left, go over the cattle grid and....oooh there are cows and sheep in the road.
We steer past them and by some miracle of my flawed navigation we find ourselves in the correct car park near the village of Minions, with a lot of hardy souls in fleeces and stout shoes. We are in shorts and tshirts.
But hey, the sun is out and forecast to be shining at about 27 today. So we are suncreamed up and we have water and snacks and a GPS and lots of sheets of paper and the all important dog.
Oh yeah, we are on Bodmin Moor.
And it's awesome. I called it "proper caching country". It is proper country. And it used to be full of tin mines. The debris of which still lies scattered across the moor.

And of course there are plenty of these.

And awesome views like this.

And mine buildings for exploring (carefully as there are mine shafts all over the place)

After about 30 minutes walk we find our first Cornwall cache.

Adrian finds a sheep skull. He's not doing this right.

But this is nature at its most rugged and on the course of our walk we pass 4 sheep corpes in various states of decomposition.
We're off again.

Check this out. Right here. In this country.

Cache number 2.

We found a tiny bridge over a stream.

Steven's in charge of the GPS now.

He leads us here.

We stop for a little paddle.

And sit down for a snack. Check this out.

OK there were Mini Cheddars too.

Is this the perfect picnic spot or what?

And we'd never have found it if it wasn't for this - Steven's first cache find.

Then Adrian had his first cache find.

Then there was a "couldn't find it" cache stop before we at last met the road again and started off back to the village.

And after a 3 hour hike - yes 3 hours - all for pleasure - what does a boy deserve? Well we stopped at a tea room in the village where the dog could sit in the courtyard with us.

On the drive back to the bungalow we happened upon a farm shop so we pulled up and I popped in for a peek and came out with a bagful.
Eggs, sossidges, potatoes, carrots, brocolli, scones, and all locally grown and produced.
We were back at the bungalow by around 2pm and we were done for the day. The dog was broken.
She slept most of the afternoon and only surfaced for dinner. We just watched TV and drank orange fizzy all afternoon. Dinner was sandwiches, chopped veggies, fruit and a scone with jam and cream.
We watched In The Night Garden together.
I think we were all asleep by 9pm. It had been a lovely day.
