"Dude, I've got a Dell"... yeah I know it's not a Mac... maybe next time :-p The 15" Macbook Pro is extremley shiney and nice... don't give up hope yet guys

As windows machines go, this one is rather nice... better battery life than a lot of others of similar spec etc... and suitably powerful. Also qualifies for the Windows 7 upgrade in october.... now before all you mac fanboys lament about the wonderfulness of snow leopard... yes i know! However getting my hands on Windows 7 is more relevant to the day-job at the moment.

However this thing will be running a flavour of Linux via virtualisation/dual-boot before too long, so i will still have access to *nix goodness even if it is not quite OSX shininess

Ohh... thank goodness! I was starting to worry about my arm twisting ability!

Or you may want to consider cygwin. While certainly not a full fledged **Nix installation, it does allow me to get by with a Unix like command line and associated goodness on my work PC without drawing much attention to myself.

    Tom (... I'll keep trying!)

it means... this one is what i now have: Dell Studio XPS 1640

and that this Mac also looks rather nice... for a significant price for the "Apple" logo obviously: Apple MacBook Pro 15"

I can still see the light... the darkside has not totally consumed me yet!

Cygwin is most certainly going to be on this machine pretty darn quick. I like command line tools that actually do something useful :p

And X11 support over an SSH connection to my main Linux machine is also handled rather nicely via Cygwin and it's modules.
