My DS thought he could go straight into dad's business fitting bathrooms , but after his work experience hubby could see it was not for him. He is more into sales, (makes a bomb selling cans of coke and kitkats as school!!!) and sport.

Yesterday he asked if I wanted to go to the 6th form opening evening. Ears prick up and asked him why, and he said well I don't want to stay on but would rather go to college and do sport.

For the last 2 years I have been telling him he could do this but he said no want to earn some money!!!

Anyway he has now decided to go to college and do a sports course, he is at a school that is classed as a specialist sports college and he has done a diploma in sports and one in sociology and expected to get a merit in both. Football mad, and plays for a local team.

I then told him if he did well he could go to uni as now the University of Kent and Greenwich has been built locally and apparently is going to be one of the major university's in that course.

Only thing is he would love to be a football coach but not sure how he would do this or what courses he has to do, to do this, does anyone know?

I am just thankful he has decided not to leave school and waste his life and at the end of the day he will have plumbing to fall back on!

At least the 11 year old knows what she wants to do!

Sounds like a good plan! He'll be fine, Mama! Who really knows what they want to do for the rest of their lives when they are only 15! :D

Problem is they have to make their choice otherwise they stay on at school and do A levels or end up stacking shelves somewhere.

I am so proud of him as it has been a tough time for him being told he would not end up working for his dad.

Ah yes, I see. Better to stick it out in school then, eh?

He'll be fine. After all, he's your boy! :D

    Sounds like a plan!

Re the football coaching he would need to get in touch with his local FA and they would steer him on the way to doing his coaching - think they can do the Level 1 course at 16

it must have been a hard decision for him (maybe he thought he might have been letting you both down by now going into the family business) i really wish him well in his sports course, i did sports at a specialist colledge which led on to a physio course and im now a fully quallified sports physiotherapist. which is an enjoyable job (and the moneys not bad either)
at the end of the day so long as he is happy doing what he loves thats the main thing and if your dh does get busy im sure ds would help out

Hi Charlie that is quite interesting as never thought of that route. His dad said he just is not hands on, and I think it is more pride than anything. I am so glad he will do what he wants rather than what others think he should do.

His is a real dedicated sports fan, he is there rain or shine for football training even saturday when it was grotty he still went.

So now will have to call the local college and find out which one is doing the sports course as he is doing the BTEC now at school.

Can you PM me Charlie what course you did?

    Many thanks

Glad he has decided what to do Kim. Katie still can't decide, she keeps switching between 6th form and college because she really doesn't know what to do
