    Well.....

then deep sleep induced for the journey and packed like sardines in a can to be woken up at the other end.
Hmmm...actually I think Jon would LOVE this...he wants to travel over the pond so badly he can't stand it but the flight time scares the wotsit right outta of him. He tells me all the time that when we go he'll have to have his own anesthesiologist travel with us so he can sedate him for the entire trip.

There really are meds for that, Becca. A neighbor I once had was very worried about flying home to Norway, and her doc gave her some anti-anxiety meds that worked like a charm. She was perfectly fine and had a wonderful time in Norway without having to fear the flight back. Some folks just have a really hard time with flying, particularly for long flights.

Yes, we do to Foreverducky. That's what I mean about the US not taking public transport seriously. We are a huge nation, granted, but we could have a really good rail system (at least) one would think. I know it's all down to profit...

Perhaps with all this terrorist in the air stuff, ground transport will be taken more seriously.

But security on Amtrak is non-existent.

Although it is simply the best way to see America. :D

They'd have to step that up then, wouldn't they? No matter the alternative (short of driving oneself) security measures would have to go into play.

I'm remembering the seventies (HARK YOUR NOISE!!! ) and seeing a news report on how the Irish in 'North Iron' had to be wanded to enter shopping areas/malls. I thought that was horrid, and couldn't imagine having to live like that...

    ...and here we are...

Nope. Crayons could be dupes for plastic explosives. No Crayolas for YOU!

I plan to take the Amtrak as much as possible for internship interviews next Dec.

I really hate flying now-a-days. It's such a pain. We're going to get to the point where we will all be searched inside and out before stepping on the plane. Don't get me wrong, I want us all to be safe...but when it's my time, I guess it's my time.
