What one item do you think makes your house into a home?

    And humans don't count.

Our house - a dog makes it a home. I can't imagine not coming home to that welcome every day. And not having a dog curled around your feet in the evening just would not be right.

    You mean like these?

House would just be an empty shell without them.

I totally agree, I miss having a dog SO much :( It's horrible, however we do have Niamh to make up for it!

I can't imagine what we did before she was here!

I agree. We all reach that point when we give up and buy a rake.

Wouldn't be without our cats although they are getting old now

Now wait a second. :) You said no humans, but I take exception to including dogs, kitties, and the like. They are living beings and far more kinder than most humans, so citing them as what makes it home, is NOT in keeping with your original rule. :D

So, I'll say books. Our house has loads of them here and there, and shelved, and stacked, and tucked, and open, and closed... books do it for us.

While our dogs do make it home, for me it's also all the little things such as photos, all the little items picked up on vacations, little signs that hang in my kitchen, etc. I guess for me it's the personal touch that you add to a house that makes it your home.

Definately photos and the like. I always feel so sad when I go to a house that has bare walls.
