Yep by the time they get passengers to the airport and checked in and through security the gap will have gone.

Apparently the EU equivalent to the air safety board has said it expects many more flights in their region to go tomorrow and some pilots are posting in their online forum that they think it's getting to the stage where they should go for it and "work the flight levels".

Meanwhile on facebook I can see flight staff saying this is the first time theyve had off for ages and some have been told not to come back into work until Thursday.

    hmmm!

Apparently KLM, among other dutch airlines (why do dutch people seem to do everything first?) have run test flights right through the ash and have been fine, but in the long-term a few flights through the ash cloud would mean a plane that uses more fuel than usual, because of the degraded fans.

I believe BA have run a test this evening as well

I kinda still wonder if they can't fly from Manchester staying a little lower than normal (ok yeah using more fuel) until they're past the problem and then go to their cruising altitude.

That's what I totally don't understand. Surely there is a reason for them not doing that.

They said that it would use more fuel (I Dont care, do it anyway!) and that there was still ash in the lower levels not just in the upper (but enough to cause a problem?)

Dunno, obviously we're not the experts but I just wonder if they all just thought well we'll leave it a day and see if the wind changes
