After some ideas really. Steven is 7 but with a much more advanced reading age and I'm looking for things to give him to read. I want to challenge his reading skills but I need to make sure the content is appropriate for his age and understanding.

He's read the whole Beast Quest series - took about an hour for each book.

He's read the How to Train Your Dragon series.

He's gone beyond Horrid Henry books.

He is currently reading the first Harry Potter book but I think the rest of the series may be too long right now to hold his interest.

So what do your children read?

When I was around that age I read a book called 'scribble boy' I loved it!
    Scribbleboy: Amazon.co.uk: Philip Ridley: Books

can't remember my exact age at the time but read it in school, perhaps in year 2/3?

Harry potter will almost certainly hold his attention ok.

The boy still likes astrosaurs books by steve cole.

The horrible history series and the linked geography and science books are excellent as well

I'll fo some more research ...

the trouble i found with Daniel was appropriate content for his reading level- can't remember exactly when he read these but they were after HP. Lemony Snicket, phillip pullman dark materials series, alex ryder series, artemis fowl.

Shame you don't live nearer they're just sitting on the shelf here. He also read things like the famous five, 5 children and it, the secret garden, robinson crusoe etc etc

The content is the problem. He'd read anything I gave him but I need to know it's "safe" for him. There's a 9 year old girl at school who's reading the Twilight books and her parents have been advised but she's still reading them and it shows now in her work.

Arteimis Fowl by Eion Colfer and Magik by Angie Sage. Both my boys loved those books and the ones that follow them.

Connor is hooked on Catherine Macphail books at the moment.

Edit to add The Amulet of Samakand (Bartimaeus trilogy) by Jonathan Stroud. I love those books never mind the kids. Bartimaeus is so funny heehee!
