Wednesday is the only day when I am granted a bit of a lie in [until around 8.00am that is] as my DW does some voluntary work at a local school on this day.
My DW woke me this morning prematurely though to tell me that a large stain had appeared overnight on the ceiling of our en-suite bathroom that we had only had decorated a few weeks ago.
Climbing into the loft in my pj`s, I was horrified to see that we had a leaking pipe.
Now I`ll dabble with electrics, build a brick wall, or even lay a patio etc.etc., but one thing I won`t do is pipework....I only have to look at a pipe and it leaks!
I therefore had to wait for a plumber while making frequent trips back to the loft to empty the bucket that I had placed under the leaky pipe as there were no apparent means of turning the supply off.
The plumber has just left our house and I feel like going back to bed!
    What a day!

Ugh. I really dislike those sorts of problems. (Well, that's no surprise! Who likes them)!

Hope you don't need to mortgage the farm to pay the plumber! Expensive folks those plumbers.

    Smart move, Terry!

Look at it this way. At least you found it before it completely let go!

    I resemble that, Mick!
Terry and I are less than two weeks apart in age. If he gets to go back to bed, I do too!

Fortunately the repair was covered by an insurance policy that I took out via the water supply company Tink.
They don`t cover the redecorating costs, however this will only be a quick paint job on the ceiling after it has dried out.
Thank heavens it didn`t happen when we were away in Florida though or we could have had a real mess to come home to...phew!

Oh my gosh, how true is THAT?! Always good to remind ourselves of the bright side, eh?

Painting a ceiling isn't so bad in the long run.

I wonder though... should you have the house assessed for shut off valves and have some installed at strategic locations in case something like this happens again?

Or, do you shut off the water when you travel? We don't, but now I'm wondering about that...
