Is it normal to have 4 fire engines follow you in on the runway when you have landed. This is what happened when we landed last week at Bristol airport. We were made to circle for ages as well before we landed.

No, that's not normal. There could have been any number of reasons for it.
Just think of it as a precaution and be glad they were being careful.

As the others have said, not normal but more frequent than we may realize. I've had it happen any number of times. Usually they won't tell you why, but one time I knew one of the attendants and he told me it was a precaution. If there is anything at all not perfectly normal on descent, regs require the emergency procedures to go into action.
