Friends of ours are going to Disney in October. They were planing on going for three nights (Thu - Sat) and booking two studios at OKW (their home resort) with DVC points. When they called to book they were told there were not two studios available for those days but there was a one bedroom for the Fri and Sat and would be put on a waiting list for Thu night.

I went online to the regular Disney site and tried to book two studios for those same nights and I could paying cash. I could even get 2 studios at BLT for those days as well. Does Disney hold back rooms for cash paying customers at the DVC resorts and give the cash paying customers priority over DVC members?

I am not sure of the exact workings of it, but my limited understanding is that there has to be a certain number of cash accommodations available. It's not that they are held away from DVC members, rather that they may go "later" than the points rooms...

I know it's come up before and the explanation was extremely complicated! All I got out of it was what I said above.

I hope that makes some sort of sense?

    Huh?

I just find this situation rather frustrating.

Essentially, there are some rooms held for cash only, regardless of whether or not DVC members want them for points.

Some folks choose to use their membership points toward a Disney Cruise or an RCI trade. Those points then become unavailable at the member's home resort and at that time become cash-only reservations.
Happy DVC Members since 1992! (OKW)
