We will almost certainly have to pay for the education of our 7 year old. He is exceptionally gifted - he is well above his age in all areas especially maths. He was reading one of his books the other day and it said ' a genius will be able to learn Pi to 100 digits - 1 hour later and he can recite it to 126 decimal places - it took him 3 hours to work out how to solve a rubiks cube now he can do them in 2 minutes. He had never seen a piano 6 months ago and now he has passed his grade 1 with distinction - there doesn't seem to be an end to what can do and achiev - bit it does come at a price and his social skills etc have needed some polishing along with his temprament. Prob;lem is the local secondary school is frankly appauling - one of the worst in the whole of Southern England. And whilst the school he is at fully recognise the potential he has they are busy with the other 33 kids in the class.

He gets bored and frustrated. Even his teacher last year took us to oine side and begged us to take him out and go private she feels his potential is wated otherwise ( she said this in strict confidence as the head would have gone nuts)

So we are looking around , but the cost is frankly bowel moving- it will put us into debt - we were looking at moving at some point but that will be out of the question now and where we send one child the other will have to follow.

I appreciate that this is a contentious area and not worthy of any sympthy - especially in light of the suffering and poverty that some find themselves in, it has been a huge decision for us but one I cannot see any other option to.

    there you did ask..
    Wonderful news, Chris!

    Potentially expensive, but wonderful!

I second those who suggested pursuing scholarships and grants. And, remember, the world tends to be short of people who excel in math and science, so that could be a good path for him if he enjoys it. With a little music and another option for personal growth and enjoyment! :)

I was thinking about that. But you have some wonderful music conservatories that are a bit more local. :)
