Thread: Blue tits in flight ( a bit dark)

    Spend most of the afternoon trying to get this right with different angles and settings - didn't help that the sun kept going behind a cloud thus totally messing things up.

    I will never again moan about trying to shoot a Gull or Mallard in flight as these things are unreal in their speed! Seriosly I'd miss them even at 10 FPS!! In order to freeze the action enough to get the body still I pretty much needed 1/5000th !! didn't even try for the wings

    As a results pretty dark and high ish iso given the conditions but out of 400 shots these are the only salvageable ones.

    Shot full manual IS0 640/800 1/5000 f7.1 and f8 with the 24-105 L lens

    I really like the second to last one, as the wings are all spread out to see. They look so determined, a bird on a mission.

    She is soooooooo jealous, but wants to know if you've ever seen a titmouse here, or a cardinal. Cedar waxwings are another of her faves...

    We saw a cardinal last time we we over, beautiful things, we had waxwings this winter for the first time in decades and they are a bit bigger than the cedars, put some pics up a while back

    Out again at the moment but the light is poor
