From Wikipedia - you know something made from leftover brewer's yeast would be popular with Aussies!

Vegemite (/?ved??m??t/) is a dark brown savoury food paste made from yeast extract, used mainly as a spread on sandwiches, toast and cracker biscuits, as well as a filling of pastries like Cheesymite scroll, in Australia and New Zealand. It is similar to British and New Zealand Marmite (in texture and appearance but not flavour) and to Swiss Cenovis.
Vegemite is made from leftover brewers' yeast extract, a by-product of beer manufacturing, and various vegetable and spice additives. The taste may be described as salty, slightly bitter, and malty - somewhat similar to the taste of beef bouillon. The texture is smooth and sticky, much like peanut butter. It is not as intensely flavoured as Marmite and it is less sweet than the New Zealand version of Marmite.
Vegemite is popular with many Australians, who commonly consider it a national food and a cultural icon.[1] It can be found in shops around the world, particularly where there are large populations of Australian expatriates. Vegemite has not been successfully marketed in other countries, apart from New Zealand, and has failed to catch on in the United States, despite being owned by US food company Kraft Foods. When seen in the United States, the Vegemite label often does not contain the Kraft logo.

Ah, sorta kinda but not quite. Gotcha. Need to remember to avoid that Swiss stuff too.

I'll pass on the vegemite thanks. Bears too close a resemblance to the dreaded Marmite.

It does... if you don't like marmite you won't like vegemite... there's not alot of difference. Just wish I could have seen your face Tink. But it's true... you do either love it or hate it lol.

If ever there is a tomorrow when we're not together.......
there is something you must always remember.
You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.
But the most important thing is, even if we're apart...... I'll always be with you.

A friend is someone who is always there and will always, always care.
A friend is a feeling of forever in the heart.

Love it, love it, love it. Love it for breakfast on hot toast with real butter seeping through it so that it runs down your chin. Not too much marmite, don't like it thick but just lightly spread over the toast

    Wonderful stuff.

Marmite and cucumber sandwich on wholemeal bread is my favourite.
