In spite of being away for the funeral over the weekend, Jon and I were able to use our tickets for the 9/11 Memorial Garden yesterday. To say I was moved would be an understatement. For whatever reason, I did not bring my camera in with me, I wasn't sure how I would feel about taking photos once inside. I did, however, snap a few shots with my phone and thought I'd share a few with you...

All of these first shots are of the North Reflecting Pool - the pools (two of them, a North and South) mark the exact footprint of each of the towers in location and size. The sound of the water has a remarkable effect. All of the typical "New York" sounds are drowned out by the water. It is incredible.

The next set of photos are from the "9/11 Survivor Tree"

It was found, barely alive, in the aftermath of the attacks. This video explains its remarkable story:

Finally, a few photos of "Freedom Tower" or "1 World Trade Center" (as you will).

It is a sight to behold. And much to ponder.

The second photo is of, what will eventually be, the Memorial Museum. The beams you see are from the Towers and were recovered from the devastation. Amazing.

We recently watched a tv series about the building work go on in new York and it was an amazing program.
I am planning to visit new York in 2014 and I will be visiting the site.

The tree and the sound of the water moved me more than anything. The water, because the sound was simply overwhelmingly peaceful; and the tree because of its symbolism.

There is a short video capture from the North Pool (so that you can experience the sound) on my facebook page here if anyone is interested.

Fab photos Becca, considering they came from your phone.
