I have a couple of iPad questions.

    1. Is it true that you have to own a MacBook or an Apple computer to get updates for the iPad?

    2. What exactly does owning an iPad do for me that I can't do with a laptop computer and vice versa is there anything I can do on a laptop that I can't do on an iPad?

    Thanks

    1. Nope. A PC works just fine. Now, with IOS 5 on the iPad, you don't even need a computer. But if you've got one, you can use iTunes on it to sync your iPad with your computer if you just want or need a local backup.

    2. Truthfully, not much. However, I find the iPad infinitely more convenient than my laptop. For me, I can have my iPad by my chair or anyplace else and since there's no boot up time, can check email or quickly do a google search whenever the mood strikes me. Without having to boot up my laptop. As an example, the other night, I was reading a book (on my iPad) in bed. I ran across something that I wanted more information about. So, quickly did a Google search for it and after finding out what I needed, went right back to reading my book.

Now, I will say that the soft keyboard on the iPad takes some getting used to. There's no tactile feel to it at all. Of course. But, for quick use, it's fine. Would I want to write a novel on it? No. But, in a pinch, you could.

Hope this helps. If you've got more questions, just ask.

They all have wifi John but you can get 3G versions too that you can browse with when not within wifi range, they cost more though and you have to pay either with a contract or as you go

Comes in two models. One is WiFi only. The other is WiFi and 3G cellular.

If you get the one with 3G cellular, then you have to choose the appropriate one for your cellular carrier. The good news is that the cellular providers (AT&T or Verizon) both allow you to get monthly data plans with no long term contract. You can buy cellular access in monthly increments.

Tom (... mine's WiFi only. For 3G I use my iPhone.)

I love my iPad, I brought the iPad 1 in America last year and i upgraded to the ipad2 a few months back, my boys both have iPads, we all love them and wouldn't be with out them now.
I use mine all the time and recently put my pc away as it wasn't being used.
