Does anyone know the name of the cable I need to connect my Sony Camcorder to my laptop? Obviously one end is a USB connector but does the actual cable have a name. I'm hoping I can go to Maplins and sound like I know what I'm talking about!

ah well thats the question really!

Some corders have JUST firewire, some have JUST usb, some have both.

Definitely needs checking. Sony was a huge firewire fan so :/

    Specs show outputs as being: 1x IEEE-1394 (4-pin), 1x S-Video, 1x A/V (Mini-RCA), USB Port - mini B

So a 4 pin Firewire Cable *should* work, yes Keith?

Looks more like firewire (iLink) to me although it does have usb too.

    Here's a section from a sony forum:-
"USB cannot be used to capture full quality video to the PC. You will need to get (if not already on your PC) firewire. "

Now the question is, where are you capturing your video to? desktop/laptop and does THAT have a firewire port?
