Decided to try something different last night as the light show started and never tried anything like this before.

Could only use the 100-300 zoom lens as I have a light pollution filter in place in the body of the SLR and that was not the time to be fiddling with it.

This meant the area of sky visible was very small-

Also focussing was a nightmare ( as you can see)

No idea at all on settings so flew blind

Out of 100 shots managed 3 forks all blurry unfortunately - if anyone has any tips I am all ears

The storm was cool. We sat in the dark and watched the lightening all around us. :D

I dont know if its the same as normal because of that filter thing. If Im taking lightning photos I put the camera into manual, focus on infinity (realising that infinity usually isnt with the focus ring turned FULLY, it's usually a notch back), medium f stop to get a reasonable depth of field, and a longish exposure on a tripod to capture the bursts but without getting so much light that you lose the darkness of the sky

manual focus wind the focu ring right to the right as far s it can go - now this should be infinty but for some reason it isn't and on canon lenses you have to ease it back just a little - try focusing on a plane a far away light or the moon
