My dad is 70 in a couple of weeks. I have no idea what to get him.

He's a very fit, active 70 year old. He likes gardening but has his garden sorted and doesn't need anything for it. He likes reading but not gadgets so a kindle is out. I don't want to get him vouchers or a gift certificate really. I want to get him something that exists already if that makes sense.

I thought about a VIP day at the races but even though he likes horse racing he's not part of that racing scene. Firstly he'd refuse to adhere to the dress code and it would go down from there.

And he doesn't do things like a nice family photo or anything. He's a bit of a misery really.

    I'm beginning to panic.

    How about actual books?

Then maybe something to have while reading, such as a nice new mug/cup along with desserts.

Time. Give him your time, Steven's time, your presence. Be with him, beside him, help him in the garden, take his direction, ask his advice. Write down what he says. Capture his wisdom, his thoughts, his opinions.
