There is a new intense initiative in the greater Orlando. Orlando is one of the most dangerous cities for pedestrians. To counteract that reality and "teach new behaviors" as the Sheriff has said, tickets will be issued to all jaywalkers, and all drivers who do not yield to pedestrians in the crosswalks.

The tickets will be warning tickets until August, at which time they will then have a fine attached to them.

So, stay in the crosswalk and yield to those in the crosswalks!

Jaywalking means that a pedestrian has crossed the road NOT using the crosswalk. When there is no crosswalk, a pedestrian still needs to cross in a safe manner (not stop in the middle of the oncoming lane, etc).

All pedestrians, whether crossing legally or not have the right of way and all drivers must yield to them. Not yielding to a pedestrian in a crosswalk will get the driver ticketed.

    Hope that helps a bit?
