Skips are fine...storm hit with a vengence on Friday. It was the freakiest thing. I went outside to close the windows on DDs car. It was dead, and I mean dead calm. I only went out to close them because of the weather reports. I didn't see lightning or hear thunder. By the time I closed her windows, a very slight breeze started. I called Sally downstairs and within 2 minutes the wind was raging as hard as any hurricane we have experienced! And we have weathered a few here on coastal Virginia over the last 33 years.
All DW's planter boxes immediately blew down. I had just enough time to take down the stars and stripes..or it would have torn. Ficus tree on our screened in porch was knocked down. Then we saw the transformers blow one by one. We lost power for about 6 hours but it came back. Still millions without power.
What gets me is why these frontal storms have formed. I just took a forecasting class in my master program and the event occured without any frontal movement. Totally weird! We have had one after another event hit late in the evening for the past 3 nights. Guess it has to do with the huge high pressure over the center of the continent and a trough in the jet stream over the Ohio valley.
We have had heat advisories for about a week. Played golf on Friday evening and it was stiffling hot. Car thermometer read 101 - 104 along the highway leading to the course. I saw that Columbia hit 113!!
