We still have a DVD player and I was thinking about getting a Blue Ray, I know that it's supposed to be a better picture, but is it really worth buying a player or waiting until the DVD player packs up completely

One of the other problems is I'd have to replace all my Disney films with Blue Ray aargghhh

Who has Blue Ray and what do you think?

I have not made that leap either. Blu-rays are expensive (I'm talking the discs). At this point, I'm happy with the quality of dvds.

Blu rays are much better quality, I'm gradually swapping over the important disney films when they have offers on and all new ones get bought as blu rays. With regards to other movies I buy it depends what it is

I`m at the same stage Wendy and I`ve decided to hold fire until my DVD player packs up.
By then maybe the cost of blue ray systems will drop too.

First let me clarify something. A DVD WILL play on a blu-ray player, but a blu-ray will not play on a DVD. So you would not have to replace all your movies right away. Second, yes a blu-ray is a MUCH better picture. And at least here in the US a blu-ray player is not all that expensive.

I can hardly bear to watch "standard definition" now, how bad is that

When I upgraded sky to sky hd I didn't think I'd see much difference, other people say they can't, but it's a night/day difference in quality and sharpness to me!

So I did blu-ray as well, the systems are cheap now and I think films look wonderful on it.

The OTHER thing to remember is, most if not all, blu-ray players will "up-res" your normal DVD disks which is, they'll try and use a bunch of clever electronics to scale up your normal disks to look better and again I must say, it works brilliantly! much better than I expected.

So, on a blu-ray player with a HD tv, even your old disks look better

I'm with Keith on this one, we changed over to blu-ray a number of years ago and we only buy blu-ray films now.
The picture quality is amazingly bright and clear.
All our DVD's have been put away in another part of the house as we never watch them.

but a) you dont need to because the bluray player will play them as normal and b) it'll actually play them BETTER than your existing dvd player :)
