For all the rhetoric, at the end of the day, you have to have the votes to have the power...and this, in Obama's opinion, is the way to do it. He looked at all the arguments against him (i.e. age, limited foreign policy experience) and he picked the person who he thought could help him overcome them. Whether or not he's chosen correctly remains to be seen. But I will say this...I have a sort of love affair with Biden because he makes for really good sound bites...everything he says isn't trite and rehearsed...he's got a certain rawness at times that keeps him out of the mainstream...and I like that...don't always agree with it...but I like it.
I dont know that I EXPECTED anything different, but I guess I hoped for something different from a guy who's all about being new and refreshing :D

feb 2007 I think it was when he said of obama "I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy." hmmmmmmm! Raw is ok when you're a 30 yr senator you can be quirky, but as vp you can quickly become an embarassment

I'm starting to think Hillary is a missed opportunity

Agreed. It was a foolish mistake and one so easily avoided, as you said, by simply stating the truth.
:/ really doesn't bode well for him

    I won't hold it against you...much.
    ohhhh yes you will

We all *hope* for something different...and we will continue to do so...I guess the reason why I have no problem with his "sound bites" is because I *hope* that his willingness to shoot from the hip will somehow translate in a willingness to speak up and speak out even when he doesn't agree with Obama on the tough issues. I *hope* to see the "push," the "debate"...I don't think he'll become an embarrassment, but I would say that I would rather be embarrassed a million times and have him stand up the one time that it really counted than for him to become a polished and professional "yes man" to Obama.

I'm starting to think Hillary is a missed opportunity
Hillary would not have been without her own "baggage" so to speak.

    ohhhh yes you will
    Ok, you're right

wholeheartedly agreed there... even though I think he's already a professional yes man ;)

sure but at least the baggage would have come with a co-ordinated trouser suit

I'll reserve my opinion on that point for now.

HEY! What's wrong with trouser suits? And you are assuming that Hillary would have accepted...there is the argument to be made that she would not.

I would bet money on her accepting a *serious* offer

Well I would too, and had said as much...but hey, thought I'd play devil's advocate for a bit...

Thing is, I think most people knew from the moment he took the nomination that she wouldn't be his pick...

yep agreed, I just wondered if the vast support that she had would make her a must have running mate.

There are a lot of people who haven't bought the party unity line and have said they'll either vote mccain or not vote at all now hillary is out of it completely. How much they really mean it when it comes down to the day is debateable but it has to be a concern

You're right...somewhere around 20% last time I heard...will Biden do anything to change that? I don't think so.

I will say this, and I mean no offense to anyone or how they choose to vote, but I do question the reasoning and the motivation of those 20% if they can so easily switch between Hillary Clinton and John McCain. They are two *very* diverse politicians.

As for her being "completely out of it"....don't be so sure...it's a long shot, no doubt and may be mere rhetoric....but I did hear talk of her name being placed into nomination at the DNC for a roll call vote.
