My sister-in-law will be 40 this July and we are going to Florida with her in August.
Do you have to be in disney when it's her birthday for them to do anything special?

As far as I know you could go any day and say that it's her birthday. Just go and get her a badge and if she's willing let them write 40 on it.

Are you planning on going to a restaurant at Disney, because if you are then it is definitely worth asking them to make a note on the reservation or when you check in that it's a birthday celebration.

Others who have celebrated will know of more things that me :)

Surprises are the best, I know at the Be Our Guest Restaurant in MK they have the grey stuff which they bring out if there is a celebration. At other restaurants I have seen cupcakes coming out with a candle in it.

The other thing you could do is arrange for a cake to be bought out. Disney do charge quite a lot for their cakes though, I'll see if I can find something about the cost. Whether or not they would let you bring in one from Publix (their cakes are devine ) and then bring it out for you I don't know

Donna and I wore our Birthday Buttons every day on our recent trip. We received things from free desserts, The Gray Stuff, and glasses of Champagne.

Well, if you go to one of the nicer signature restaurants, then they will normally have their own birthday dessert plate with Happy Birthday written in chocolate on the plate. In some of them, if they know in advance they will print personalised menus and decorate your table with confetti.

As for birthday cakes, you can have a a 6 inch cake which is available in both chocolate and vanilla. No notice is necessary; you can order it upon arrival at most of Disney's table-service restaurants. The price is about $21 plus tax but you can only have Happy Birthday written on it.

The next option is a Mickey's head cake from the Disney bakery. Cakes must be ordered with at least 48 hours notice. This is $48 plus tax and serves about 10 people.

A custom cake is available at most table service restaurants. You will need to contact Walt Disney World Resort at (407) 827-2253. You can choose from a variety of cakes and shapes, personalized for your special occasion. They will be able to advise you on different sizes, flavours etc and you will need to give 48 hours advance notice for a customized cake.

    Cake sizes are:

    • 6-inch serves 5

    • 8-inch serves 8....................$32 + tax

    • 10-inch serves 16.............. $45 for cake + tax and up to $30 for decorations

    • 1/4 sheet cake serves 25...............................$55 for cake + tax and up to $35 for decorations

    • 1/2 sheet cake serves 50.........................$80 for cake + tax and and up to $40 for decorations

Obviously all these prices are subject to conformation and tax will be extra.

There are so many different flavours, I will start a new thread with the information and stick it.

This is a cake that the YSH made and it cost $75

Someone else may have actually had a cake and can give you some more information.
