Because she was in power during the 80s which was a time of recession and high unemployment. The dislike is mainly in the north of England where she took on the trade unions and smashed them - especially the miners. The working classes suffered under Thatcherism.

I kind of sympathise with them. But she had the balls to stand up to Argentina. And she kept Reagan in check.

I don't like everything she and her party did or believed in but do recognise the contribution she made. She was a strong leader and role model for Women especially. I don't think some people can separate the two

I've just seen that some people are celebrating because she's dead, whatever you think of someone to do that?!

How can they celebrate her death, there are some horrible people about.

I think she made a mistake letting people buy council houses and privatising all the energy companies etc, but she did a hell of a lot for this country.

She pulled this country back from financial ruin and put the Great back in Great Britain, we need someone like her now. I had high hopes for Cameron but unfortunately he just doesn't have the drive and determination of Maggie.

I believe that says more about the people doing the celebrating than it does about Baroness Thatcher.

I couldnt believe that people are saying they are glad shes dead etc. Im not being funny but its not she physically hurt people!!! There were worse people around in the 80s and one of them was jimmy Saville - it makes me wonder if these "haters" would have been the same to the likes of him!!!
I think there needs to be another Maggie now who isnt scared to take on the crisis and actually fix it

I've read some articles on the subject and boy were some of them an eye opener! I guess I was too focused on my own life in the 80's to fully retain what was going on in other parts of the world.

Some of what I've read is just plain mean and cruel though. Speaking ill of the dead. Doesn't anyone respect that prohibition any longer?

I am hearing on the news this morning that the song "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead" from the Wizard of Oz has suddenly hit new popularity in the UK. How utterly ridiculous is that?

It's sickening. Whatever your feelings on Mrs Thatcher she was still a wife and mother. Some people have no respect.
