Ive never found much difference in price OR service OR cars between alamo and dollar. Indeed I used alamo with virgin holidays in one of our may trips and the cars were the same as dollar we used in dec. (chevy impala I think)

I dont know what I'm expecting really but a bit of choice would be nice or perhaps if I could reserve a particular car that would work

On that basis there doesn`t seem to be much difference in cost.
If you got the price through Virgin then you will find that the price includes Alamo's breakdown cover as well. I'm going to try Alamo next year (if we go )

...and I think you get virgin airmiles as well ?

I keep being told that this is the best deal around at the moment http://www.alamo.co.uk/brits and apparently we can use the alamo "save time" thing with it so you dont need to stop at the desk

I've not tried it yet myself but I'm going to compare prices before December

Thanks a million for that link Keith.
I`ve just punched in my dates and got a cost of 439.14 for a full size car which is a heck of a lot cheaper than anyone else.
I can`t see the bit about not the "save time" thing though.

apparently when you get your confirmation through, it'll contain a section on how to register for save time. Once done, you just go to the garage and no need to stop at the desk :)

I don't know what insurance you normally have Terry, but that is for the fully inclusive and it doesn't include the fuel, you will have to pay for that at the desk. I wasn't sure if you normally have the Dollar platinum package

Even taking account of the fuel Wendy, it seems a darn sight cheaper than the others....thank heavens US fuel is dirt cheap!

The price is really good, I could have got ours a lot cheaper than we have paid, but if I cancel now I'll lose the deposit which was 75
