Has anyone used airport assistance at Gatwick, Orlando or Manchester

We are flying with Virgin and Chris says I should make use of it this year. I'm not so sure as I think it's abusing the system. We are flying from Gatwick, but coming home to Manchester.

The main thing I am worried about is the wait when we get to Orlando, I use the handicap lane as I have been told to do that by a TSA officer who told me off (in a nice way) for standing in line but I am hearing some really bad stories about the wait to get through immigration. Our Keith had quite a wait on his recent trip and there is just no way I will manage it.

The thing is I'm not the type of person to say excuse me and walk past people to get to the hall so I can use the handicap lane so this is why Chris is saying I need to ask for assistance.

If I decide to, has anyone used Virgin's special assistance line and has anyone used this when flying into Orlando and if so what happens?

I don't know the situation at orlando but I did fly with a friend who used it at Manchester and they couldn't have been nicer to her. They went straight through the same doors the airline staff were using, no waiting around and on the way back it was similar.

You really do need it and should have no qualms about using it at all! that's what it's there for

Thank you, I feel guilty using it, I know I'm silly, but you know what I'm like.

It's good to know about Manchester Keith.

We used assistance for Mum from Gatwick to Dublin and back in January, everyone involved was fantastic...so friendly and helpful, they even went out of their way to find the cushion for Mums wheelchair once we reached the car park and realised we didn't have it! Somehow we managed to leave it on the minibus that transported us from the 'plane to the buggy at passport control - they did the whole journey again just to find it. Mum didn't want to use assistance but it turned out to be so helpful I wouldn't travel with her again without using it! Just a shame the boys weren't with us, we had a right old time getting to the 'planes and back on various modes of transport!

Please don't. If you know you are going to be miserable and in pain then use it. There is nothing noble about suffering. Especially if it might impact your holiday.

Johnie is right, please don't feel guilty Wendy. The service is there for a reason, if they didn't want people to use it they wouldn't offer!

You shouldn't feel guilty for a service which is needed.

It's quite clear that it isn't being abused in this situation so I would find out all you can about it.
