Lol I would not actually paint my house purple. I just don't like to pay people to tell me what to do.

Well, I rather like purple. :D In our HOA you can paint your house but you have to get the color approved first. I'm ok with that. It really is what you prefer though. If you don't like the bylaws then it surely wouldn't be a great idea to live in a given HOA. The ones in effect in Celebration are brutal. Kids can't have their toys on the front lawns, and last I knew, in some areas you couldn't park a pickup truck in your driveway. If you owned one it had to stay in the garage with the door closed, unless you were driving it to and from your house. Very restrictive.

HOAs also protect the value of your property in that their are bylaws that prevent people from painting their house colors that could devalue the area. :) They also require neatness, and manicured lawns, and not parking 52 cars in your driveway, and other things like that. :) We have an HOA and are quite pleased with it.
I must admit that so far I haven't had any problems with our HOA. However, last year the dues took a HUGE jump. Seems they added, what to me, is a useless security service.

I too am quite happy with the HOA that looks after our villa, and their costs [surprisingly] have remained at the same level for a couple of years now.
As our place is only used occasionally, I shudder to think how high the grass would be if it was not cut on a regular basis and they do try to look after the area, particularly in view of the fact that some folks live there full time.

I quite like the idea of order and neatness so HOAs appeal to me. I think I may have a touch of OCD... Or CDO as it should be in alphabetical order ;)

Slowhand, your HOA cuts your lawn?! I'm thinking this is a property management company as opposed to a HOA.

Nope, several HOAs do lawns and trim shrubs, etc. It's usually reflected in the fees.

Interesting. I've never heard of that around here. That is something I could get behind.

Some HOAs are good and some are bad. It all depends on who has been voted in to run them.

BTW, the Golden Oak HOA fees range from $4,850 to $7,500 a year.

Bwahahahahahahahahaha! Can you imagine! They'd better be doing my laundry, getting my groceries, mowing my lawn, trimming my shrubs, washing my car, planting my flowers... you get the idea! Oh, and add cleaning the bathrooms!
