Thread: suitcase and carry on recommendations?

  1. #1
We've got those old hard sided suitcases which weigh a ton

Im thinking about cashing in some argos points to get some new luggage and wondered if anyone had any recommendations for strong but light luggage and carry on?

We used to always go with good quality suitcases as Jon travelled a lot - can't remember the make now starts with an S I think mm however the airlines just chuck them around so we go for something that seems sturdy enough but isn't too expensive. I've seen good deals in debenhams before. What we've done before is bought new ones in Walmart while out there as you can get some good deals

We bought our new cases in holiday they were a lot cheaper than at home for a decent make. We bought Travelpro and they are light but very strong.

We've been using Tripp luggage for several years. Inexpensive, lightweight and robust.

we bought Sub Zero G "worlds lightest suitcases" some time ago for both main luggage and hand luggage. They're SO light that you can pick them up with your little finger (before you fill them up ;-)) so there really is no weight in them to add to your contents. The main concern people have with them is how long they'll last and though we've had the usual scuffs on them from the airport handling, they've yet to be broken or get any holes in them at all. So I think they're stronger than they look.

Although they aren`t the lightest of cases [although they aren`t that heavy], I can`t speak highly enough about Samsonite hard cases.
I`ve had mine for many years and travelled all over the place with it and it carries a lifetime guarantee which I put to the test a few years ago when one of the wheels were broken off on the return journey from MCO.
Within days I had received replacement wheels and fixings all completely free of charge even though the case was at least 15 years old.

That's the brand! Didn't realise they had a life time guarantee! Doh

Samsonite is a very good brand! Tumi is another. There is another too, that starts with a D (I actually have a piece) but I can't remember the name. I'll google and come back...
