I recently received a tablet as a gift and need to get some sort of security on it, but have no idea what's best.

I attempted to download AVG free which told me it was rooted and something about contacting the manufacturer about getting it unrooted?

So I panicked and didn't go ahead with the installation and now I'm not sure what to get. paying for one is fine but as the tablet itself wasn't mega expensive it doesn't seem worth spending too much on it, but on the other hand I want to use my email, browse the internet, etc. without being worried about it being hacked.

Any advice will be most gratefully received, thank you.

I sure wish I could help. My iPad Mini was bought for me, and pretty much set up, so I'm useless. I do like the little bugger though! You will find all sorts of uses for it, too.

Maybe Norton has an anti-virus? Could the maker of the android tablet give you some advice? I know there are other options. I'll ask the boy's Da when I see him. He'll have some good suggestions, too.

While I don't use Android specifically, both Lookout and BitDefender seem to have gotten good reviews. I'd suggest taking a look at both and see what you think.

Tom ( ... maybe I should consider one of these for myself. )

Chris has an android phone and he uses Lookout, he says it's free and it has a locating device on it as well. He said you can't go wrong with that.

I am an Apple guy and have never owned an Android device, but I'll add to the Lookout suggestion: http://www.androidcentral.com/lookou...android-phones
