In a MOST impulsive decision, and made possible by a little extra somethin' somethin' from the IRS, Jon and I have decided to do a bit of "carpe diem'ing" and book a cruise.

We leave two weeks from today.

Of course, I would have been happy to go to Disney, but Jon seems quite insistent that there are other places in the world that he'd like to see, and I'm trying my best to compromise. So...I've booked us a cruise to The Bahamas.

Now...I haven't mentioned that the first port of call is Cape Canaveral, Florida or that one of the excursions you can book is to EPCOT for the day so we'll just keep that our little secret for a while, ok?

Wow - that's great news, congratulations.

Jeez, it really is peak booking season, isn't it?! Everyone's away!

Apparently STILL in the gambling mood (referencing my latest DVC point renting adventure) we've booked onto the Carnival Splendor out of NYC. Our initial plan was to book on the new Norwegian Breakaway, but after reading several reviews (read: HUNDREDS) that all said the same thing (too cramped, too crowded to relax) we thought better. That narrowed our choices down to the Royal Caribbean Explorer of the Seas or the Carnival Splendor. The RC ship received *slightly* better reviews than the Carnival ship, but at the end of the day, the DEAL to be had was found on the Splendor. We booked 8 nights aboard the Splendor in a Cloud 9 Spa Room, which includes private access to the spa, adults only area and LOADS of extra amenities - all for a SHOCKINGLY good deal. (Total cost was actually less than the amount we saved by renting DVC point vs. paying rack rate w/ free dining at Beach Club for our September/October trip.) I was a little hesitant as the Splendor is the same ship as the Costa Concordia, but let's face it...that wasn't the ship's fault. I'm not generally a fan of Carnival, but the price was right and the reviews of the spa rooms are glowing. General ship reviews say she's showing her age a bit, but hell, so am I! I just want a week of sun and fun and relaxation.

Well, the way the numbers lined up, we took half of what we saved by renting DVC points, paid for the cruise and then banked the other half for our UK EXTRAAAAAAAAAAVAGANZA! Not a bad deal, really...we took one vacation and have now turned it into 3!

Oh so jeleous, You will have a blast!!! We have sailed with CCL and RCL and had great experiences with both. I try to not put too much weight in those cruise reviews. I think there are a bunch of cruise snob boobs that get off on blasting the lines like they are supposed to be soooo worldly. Take it with a grain of salt. I know you will have just the best time kiddo.

    Excellent news Becca

He'll faint at the price, but I've picked up teaching a technology club at school, and have sat back a little money, so I may just "surprise" him (as in, "SURPRISE!" I got my way after all!)
