    Hello britchick,
    A number of things could be causing the laptop to run slowly. Like the guys have said, you have Memory, Viruses, amongst other things. I haven't run a windows box for about a year, however..... I found this page which may assist to speed it up for you.

    Apologies, doh! tiredness is setting in. :)
    Similar fixes though for XP as in Vista. :)
    Most of the machines run slowly due to the Registry, with installation of programs and removal :)

    thats one thing windows is bad at and thats removing registry entries, i usually do that manually tho, but to someone not in the know that can be disastrous

    i'm cleaning out my programmes and i've got lots of java runtime environment updates, do i delete the old ones?
