Try to find the noctilucent clouds about an hour after sunset. They are clouds in the very upper atmosphere (mesosphere). I have seen some beautiful pictures from guys in Ireland. You are at a great latitude to see them.
I was part of a group of teachers sent to Alaska a few years ago to study them, and construct curriculum to go with the NASA AIM mission (Aeronomy in the Mesosphere)

Actually saw them in Anchorage in 2006. Had a tough hide after class to Flat top mountain. Didn't get off the mountain until after 11:00 and the sun was just starting to set. Got back to campus and looked out my window. Thought I was hallucinating so I took a picture of it and showed it to the primary scientist and it was one. So the next night we all went back and hiked up Flat top again. There were some really good shots taken that night. They are somewhere on the site.
