After the sad news of another company going bust who is next. It is very worrying knowing you may not get to go on the holiday you have saved and planned for all year.

It's not just the travel industry. Everywhere is feeling the pinch. You never know what will be next. There was a story locally recently about a wedding dress shop that went bust one day leaving loads of brides without their dresses.

It's an unfortunate sign of the times. :(

Yes. There are a few ways to , hopefully, guard against loss of finances. Pay by credit card and use companies that are ABTA or ATOL registered.

I was shocked to read this morning that owing to the rise in cost of oil it now costs $17000 more to fly a fully loaded 777 across the Atlantic now than it did last year.

Thing is.... they've all reduced the weight of hold luggage we can have which saves fuel or recoups money depending how people have reacted to it. They've levied fuel surcharges on top of the fuel taxes which have been passed on to customers, so these companies can't really claim they've had to absorb the costs themselves can they?

Gasoline in parts of North and South Carolina rose to over $5.00 per gallon today. The 'cane, don't you know. Gouging, that's what it is.

I saw a bit of the BBC this am before leaving the hotel for the airport. The reporter was saying that there is a significant number of UK folks changing their shopping habits. Instead of pricey clothing and food shops, they are switching to much less expensive places. She said that the "new" thing to do is "brag about how little you paid for your outfit!"

Sign of the times. Not good times either. :(

Depending on whether they've hedged their fuel costs properly (Southwest tends to be one of the few that does), they're probably still trying to recoup costs from when fuel prices began rising so quickly and they didn't react.

Even if fuel prices decrease significantly, I wouldn't expect a pricing adjustment any time soon.

The annoying thing is that these oil companies make billions in profits each year and are allowed to get away with it. Then companies fold and people are with out jobs and others lose there hard earned cash they have paid towards holidays.
It about time the head of the countries did something about it.

They are blaming it on the 'cane. It has the potential to damage the offshore rigs, so they are charging those ridiculous prices giving the excuse that it will cost that much to replace the gas they now have. Gouging plain and simple. :(
