Medical insurance always has discriminated against certain people. They are simply making it easier for employers to continue this in what they hope will be considered a socially acceptable manner.

When it comes to medical insurance in the US--private employers--we're already penalized for gender and age. Actually, if one person has maternity coverage, all employees and dependents must have maternity coverage, according to the insurance companies. Men must have maternity coverage? Women who no longer can have children must have maternity coverage? Children must have maternity coverage?

And don't get me started on the age issue. I'm very healthy (despite my weight and old injuries that plague me from time to time), but my medical insurance premium is almost $800 per month for a fairly mediocre plan. But if I don't pay it (or the portion my employer doesn't), I don't have it or pay more with an individual policy--and even worse coverage!

We have two overweight relatives in Alabama . One healthy, one not so healthy . This is not a good plan . A good plan would be helping them to find a way to slim down , not punish them for being overweight . Some overweight people can not help it . Being overweight could be caused by a medical problem . Thyroid, diabetes , etc . Isn't this called discrimination .
I like your idea Johnie . I stopped smoking over a year ago, but not soom enough as I have suffered from COPD emphysema for many years . My fault ! Even though I'm better and can feel a difference in my breathing , I can not get more life insurance because of my condition . I haven't even had to use my nebulizer for a year and still to this day, no go .

I'm glad to hear you are doing better Jim. I think it's a shame when they hold a pre-exisiting condition over your head.
