Okay, so when I had my Fuji f10, I used the Fuji programs to store my pictures on my laptop. Now that i have my Canon S3, i use the canon programs. I would like to purchase a small and cheap point/shoot to take in my purse for those unexpected moments. I was wondering if I got a different brand, but didn't load the programs, could I just take the memory card, load the pictures on my laptop and then use the canon program to open them? I just don't want all these brand specific programs, if that makes sense.

almost certainly you could, but I'd recommend using a brand agnostic application like picassa then you'll be sure it'll work with any brand :)

I love Picassa! Great program. That is all we use in our house and we have Fuji and Lumix digital cameras. Works well with both of them.

I do have Corel Paint Shop Pro...would that do the same thing? I'm just slightly confused, sorry. Then does that mean that I could delete the brand specific programs off my laptop?

Picassa is a free application which if I remember correctly sort of searches out your picture files imports them and sorts them nicely. I am not sure with the Corel offering as I have never used it.

I'm totally fine with downloading that program, but could I delete the brand specific programs then?

Yes, yes you could...just make sure you don't have any photos saved in that program before you delete it...you'll need to just create a folder on your hard drive (perhaps on the desktop so you can find it easily) and put your photos in there...then once you've downloaded Picassa, you can transfer all your photos there from the folder you've created.

It really is a great program Billie. There is a great screen saver slide show that comes with it. It is awesome for emailing photos too.
